Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has stated that the merger of low-enrollment government schools is in the interest of students, teachers, and parents, and will help enhance the overall quality of education. During a review meeting with the Basic Education Department on Monday, he emphasized that the school pairing system should be implemented with a long-term and comprehensive perspective.
The Chief Minister clarified that schools with more than 50 students will continue to operate independently to improve administrative efficiency, accountability, and academic monitoring. He also directed that vacated school buildings due to the pairing system be repurposed for bal vatikas (play schools), pre-primary classes, or relocated Anganwadi centers, strengthening early childhood education and ensuring optimal use of campus infrastructure.
“No Child Should Be Left Out of School”
CM Yogi stressed the need for 100% school enrollment and attendance among children aged 6 to 14. He instructed that school management committees, including headteachers and village pradhans, must ensure no child is left out. He also directed strict and effective implementation of the “School Chalo Abhiyan” to ensure every child attends school.
₹1200 DBT for Uniforms and School Supplies
The CM instructed officials to promptly transfer ₹1200 to each enrolled child’s parent through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for uniforms, shoes, socks, stationery, and textbooks. He emphasized that the process must be transparent and timely to avoid any disruption in the availability of school materials.
Immediate Action to Strengthen Infrastructure
The Chief Minister also ordered that all schools lacking basic infrastructure be equipped with necessary resources immediately. This will ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable learning environment for children, supporting their academic development.
