UPCL Seeks Power Tariff Hike Again, 27 Lakh Consumers May Face Higher Bills

Over 27 lakh electricity consumers in Uttarakhand may soon face another increase in power bills as Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has filed a petition with the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) seeking a review of the April 11, 2024 tariff order.

Earlier this year, electricity rates had been raised by 5.62%, but UPCL is now requesting an additional hike of 5.82%, citing revised expenditure estimates. The corporation is looking to recover an extra ₹674.77 crore from consumers, based on past and projected costs.

If approved, the new rates are proposed to take effect from April 1, 2025. The commission will hold a public hearing on the matter on August 5 at 11:30 AM at its Dehradun office. Consumers can submit their suggestions by August 1 either via post to the UERC office near ISBT, Majra, Dehradun – 248171, or by email at [email protected].

The petition is available for public review at the UERC office, UPCL headquarters, and zonal offices in Garhwal and Kumaon.
