Uttarakhand achieves historic revenue surplus, CAG report highlights financial discipline

Dehradun: Uttarakhand has achieved a significant milestone in financial management by recording a revenue surplus of ₹5,310 crore in the financial year 2022-23, according to the latest report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). This marks a historic achievement for the state, placing it among those that maintained a revenue surplus during this period.

The CAG report underlines the remarkable improvement in Uttarakhand’s financial health. Once considered under the “BIMARU” category, the state has demonstrated strong fiscal discipline and transparent governance to achieve this surplus. Despite earlier challenges in financial management, Uttarakhand has now set an example of effective fiscal responsibility.

Reacting to the report, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the achievement reflects the success of good governance policies. He credited the accomplishment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” and highlighted that the surplus is not just about figures but a decisive step towards economic self-reliance and a prosperous future for Uttarakhand. The Chief Minister reaffirmed that the government will continue working with transparency, accountability, and fiscal discipline to transform Uttarakhand into a developed and self-sufficient state.
