Statewide Raids Against Adulterated Ghee and Butter Sellers Begin in Uttarakhand

The Food Safety and Drug Control Department has launched a widespread campaign across Uttarakhand to curb the sale of adulterated desi ghee and butter. The campaign has been initiated in all districts of the state, targeting both desi ghee and butter vendors, as well as sweet shops, where samples are being collected for testing. Health Secretary and Food Commissioner Dr. R Rajesh Kumar emphasized that strict action will be taken against those selling adulterated ghee and butter in the state. The central Ministry of Health has also issued instructions to all states to sample sweets like laddus and test market-sold ghee.

Samples Taken from Renowned Brands of Ghee and Butter

Tajbar Jaggi, the Additional Commissioner of the Food Department, stated that a statewide campaign has been initiated to control the sale of adulterated ghee and butter. Instructions have been given to officials to conduct raids at sweet shops and stores selling ghee and butter across all districts. The enforcement teams have collected samples from various brands of ghee and butter, which will be tested, and further action will be taken based on the test reports. The campaign is being led by divisional deputy commissioners and district-designated officers, with senior food safety officers conducting extensive inspections of manufacturing units, storage, and retail outlets to gather legal and surveillance samples of both local and branded ghee and butter.

Raids in Dehradun Extend from Urban to Rural Areas

In the Garhwal division, a raid campaign was led by Deputy Commissioner RS Rawat. Inspections were carried out in various locations across Dehradun district, with samples collected and sent to labs for testing. The raids covered both urban and rural areas, including Herbertpur, Sahaspur, and Sudhowala. The raiding team included senior FSO Ramesh Singh, Santosh Singh, Sanjay Tiwari, and DO Manish Singh.

Intensive Campaign in Kumaon Division

In the Kumaon division, under the leadership of Food Safety and Drug Administration Deputy Commissioner Anoj Kumar Thapliyal, a team launched a campaign to prevent the sale and storage of adulterated ghee in Haldwani. The team conducted inspections at major wholesale and retail outlets on Mangal Parao, Kaladhungi Road, and Rampur Road, collecting samples of popular brands like Paras, Pahalwan, Mother Dairy, and Health Made desi ghee. One sample of Nova skimmed milk powder was also collected and sent for testing. Once the test reports are received, appropriate action will be taken. Senior Food Safety Officer Aslam Khan from Ramnagar also collected a sample of ghee. The campaign will continue throughout the district.

The inspection team in Nainital district included designated officer Sanjay Kumar Singh, Senior FSO Abhay Kumar Singh, and FSO Kailash Chandra Tamta.
