Dehradun, 15 November 2024. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that Uttarakhand will host an annual ‘Tribal Science Festival’ to encourage tribal talent in science. He made this announcement at the ‘Adi Gaurav Mahotsav’ organized by the State Tribal Research Institute at ONGC Stadium, Kaulagarh Road, Dehradun. The government will allocate necessary funds to support this festival.
During the event, the CM interacted with tribal communities from various states, enjoyed cultural performances, and joined in tribal dances. He also paid tribute to Birsa Munda, a revered tribal leader, acknowledging his significant contributions to India’s independence movement and social reforms within the tribal communities.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to tribal empowerment under PM Modi’s leadership, noting increased budgets for tribal development and the establishment of Eklavya Model Schools. Uttarakhand has selected 128 tribal villages for the PM Tribal Development Village Campaign, aiming to improve infrastructure, education, and health in these areas. Four Eklavya residential schools in the state offer free education and hostel facilities to tribal students, alongside scholarships and financial support for tribal girls’ marriages.
CM Dhami reiterated the state’s dedication to preserving and promoting tribal culture, with events like the annual State Tribal Festival and sports programs. He also acknowledged President Droupadi Murmu’s historic election as a symbol of the central government’s commitment to tribal empowerment.
