The Uttarakhand Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, will convene today at the state secretariat. A key agenda item is expected to be the discussion on the appointment of administrators and holding of elections for the state’s three-tier panchayats, following the recent constitutional impasse.
This comes after the Raj Bhavan returned the proposed ordinance aimed at extending administrators’ tenure in panchayats. The issue has left over 10,000 panchayat positions vacant across the state. The cabinet may deliberate on the next legal or administrative steps to address this governance vacuum.
In addition, the cabinet is likely to consider lifting restrictions on new constructions and land transactions in the Raipur area. The housing department is expected to present a proposal on the matter, which has seen prolonged curbs due to regulatory and environmental concerns.
Sources also suggest that the meeting will review amendments to service rules and take up proposals related to the revenue department, indicating a broader administrative agenda beyond the panchayat issue.
