Raksha Bandhan was celebrated across Uttarakhand on Sunday with enthusiasm, as sisters tied rakhis on their brothers’ wrists, praying for their long life and well-being. The festival led to a sharp rise in postal deliveries, with India Post reporting that 76,641 rakhis have been received so far in the state. Out of these, 59,742 have been delivered, while around 16,000 remain pending due to incorrect addresses and other issues. Ordinary rakhi service recorded 2,647 consignments, in addition to more than 10 rakhis sent daily via speed post and 700–800 by ordinary post. On Friday alone, 10,785 rakhis were delivered.
On the occasion, the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation provided women with free travel in its ordinary buses. The state government will reimburse the expenses incurred by the corporation for this initiative. Divisional General Manager Suresh Chauhan confirmed that all depots were instructed in advance to implement the free travel scheme for Raksha Bandhan.
