Dehradun: Uttarakhand is preparing to conduct a digital crop survey in 4,400 villages, marking a major shift from manual to digital data collection. Employees from the Revenue, Horticulture, Agriculture, and Sugarcane Development Departments will carry out the survey, for which training sessions are currently underway. The state has over 16,000 villages, where crop details are still recorded manually.
Under the Ministry of Agriculture’s directive, the new survey will be fully digitised. Using a mobile application, surveyors will record field data with GPS tagging, photographs, crop details, land ownership, irrigation status, and even the number of trees on the land. Any land-use changes, such as construction of houses or roads, will also be documented.
The survey will be conducted twice a year, during rabi and kharif seasons, ensuring accurate records of crop patterns and agricultural land use. This will help track changes in farming trends, land utilisation, and provide a reliable database for agricultural planning.
Revenue Council Secretary Ranjana Rajguru said training of staff is in progress, and the survey work will begin once it is completed.
