An inter-ministerial central team will arrive in Uttarakhand on September 8 to assess the damage caused by recent disasters. The team will hold a meeting with state officials in Dehradun before visiting six districts—Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pauri, Bageshwar, and Nainital—for on-ground inspection.

Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman informed that a Post-Disaster Need Assessment (PDNA) will also be conducted soon to evaluate the actual scale of losses. The team will be led by R. Prasanna, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, along with six other senior officials including Deputy Director Mahesh Kumar, Superintending Engineer Sudhir Kumar, Deputy Director Vikas Sachan, Chief Engineer Pankaj Singh, and Director Dr. Virendra Singh.

According to Suman, the state has recorded 574 mm of rainfall this monsoon season, the highest in recent years, leading to extensive damage. The state government has sought a special assistance package of Rs 5702.15 crore from the Centre, including Rs 1944.15 crore for reconstruction and Rs 375 crore for stabilizing infrastructure and vulnerable areas. Proposals will also be sent for livelihood support to affected families.
