Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the disaster-affected regions of Uttarakhand soon, where recent cloudbursts, landslides, and land subsidence have caused massive destruction. The state government has sought a special assistance package of ₹5702 crore from the Centre to manage the losses.
The disaster chain began on August 5 in Dharali, Uttarkashi, and has since affected hundreds of villages. Many families are still living in relief camps as damage assessment and rehabilitation efforts continue.
A central team will arrive in Uttarakhand on Monday to survey the affected areas. Meanwhile, PM Modi has been in constant touch with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami regarding the situation. Preparations are underway for his possible visit, though it remains undecided whether he will conduct ground inspections or an aerial survey. Official confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is expected soon.
