Uttarakhand is set to establish drone ports and corridors soon, with work already underway following approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) is spearheading the development of essential infrastructure and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) traffic management software.
Key Features of the Project:
- Drone Ports and Corridors: ITDA Director Nitika Khandelwal stated that dedicated drone ports for takeoff, landing, and maintenance will be constructed. Six drone corridors will be developed — three in Garhwal and three in Kumaon, with all corridors interconnected.
- Traffic Management System: An unmanned traffic management (UTM) software will be deployed to ensure real-time monitoring and management of drone operations.
- Infrastructure Development: An Expression of Interest (EOI) has been issued to invite experts for project implementation.
Once operational, these dedicated corridors will streamline drone transport between Garhwal and Kumaon regions, promoting both commercial and governmental drone applications. This initiative marks a significant step toward advancing drone technology in Uttarakhand.
