Uttarakhand to Boost Eco-Tourism with Single Window System and Annual Activity Calendar

IAS Anand Verdhan

The Uttarakhand government is set to implement a single window system for granting permits related to mountaineering and trekking activities. During a high-level meeting held at the Secretariat, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan directed the Forest Department to develop a centralized mechanism that allows both domestic and international tourists to obtain all necessary approvals through a single application process.

To strengthen eco-tourism in the state, Bardhan emphasized the need for an annual calendar that schedules nature-based tourism activities such as forest walking and nature trails. This calendar will help ensure timely execution and coordination of tourism plans.

The Chief Secretary also instructed officials to expand the number of camping sites and to increase the scale of forest-based tourism activities without disturbing the natural environment. He stressed setting ambitious targets for tourist inflow and revenue generation. The goal is to align future plans according to these enhanced targets.

Additionally, Bardhan called for the development of an integrated tourism website. Currently, information on various eco-tourism schemes is scattered across multiple departmental platforms. A unified portal will offer a seamless experience to tourists, enabling easy access to all activities and services in one place.
