The Uttarakhand government has enforced the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) for six months in all three state power corporations, prohibiting any employee strikes during this period.
An official notification issued by Principal Secretary (Energy) R. Meenakshi Sundaram confirms the implementation of ESMA in Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL), and Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (PTCUL).
Under this order, no employee union or organization in the state’s energy sector will be allowed to conduct strikes for the next six months. Following the directive, UPCL and other corporations have also issued letters to union leaders, including presidents, general secretaries, and office bearers of various employee associations, clearly stating that strikes will remain prohibited under ESMA.
