Uttarakhand is set to receive ₹439 crore from the Compensatory Afforestation Fund (CAMPA) for forest fire management and increasing green cover across the state. The state forest headquarters has already submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the first installment of funds is expected soon.
Each year, the Forest Department undertakes afforestation, forest fire control, and measures to reduce human-wildlife conflict using funds from the state sector. In addition to this, financial support is also provided under CAMPA for compensatory afforestation and protective measures. For the current financial year 2025–26, the department has proposed a budget of over ₹439 crore. Out of this, ₹200 crore is expected to be released in the first phase.
According to Sameer Sinha, Chief Executive Officer of CAMPA, a meeting has already been held regarding the proposal and the fund release is likely to happen soon. Of the total amount, ₹12 crore will be specifically used for forest fire control and related management, which remains a top priority. Other initiatives include compensatory afforestation, catchment area treatment, and efforts to mitigate human-wildlife conflict.
