In a major step towards uplifting education in remote and under-resourced areas, 550 government primary and secondary schools in Uttarakhand will soon be adopted by industrialists under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. These schools, mostly situated in difficult hilly terrains, will be equipped with modern infrastructure and facilities.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed on July 30 at Raj Bhawan, in the presence of Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The event will formalize partnerships between various industrial groups and the state’s education department.
According to Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, the initiative aims to transform these schools into model institutions by providing smart classrooms, computer and science labs, libraries, modern furniture, upgraded toilets, playgrounds, sports equipment, and secure boundary walls. Industrialists will also be responsible for the schools’ maintenance throughout the year.
The project also aims to integrate 559 vocational schools across the state. Additionally, non-resident Uttarakhandis living in India and abroad are encouraged to participate by adopting schools in their native villages through coordination with the education department.
