Vehicles entering Uttarakhand from other states will now mandatorily pay a green cess, with no scope for evasion. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have been installed deep inside all state borders to ensure detection and deduction of green cess via Fastag. If a vehicle escapes one camera, it will be captured by another.
The Transport Department is set to begin green cess collection across Uttarakhand by the end of this month. The selected agency has finalized its agreement with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), and coordination with the Vahan portal is also underway.
Joint Transport Commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh stated that once an outside vehicle enters Uttarakhand, the ANPR camera will automatically deduct green cess from the vehicle’s Fastag account. The cess, once deducted, will remain valid for 24 hours. If the vehicle re-enters the state after that duration, a fresh deduction will be made.
