Heavy Rains In Uttarakhand Trigger Landslides, Deaths and Destruction

Continuous heavy rainfall and cloudbursts have brought widespread devastation in the hill districts of Uttarakhand. In Rudraprayag’s eastern Bangar region, a massive landslide at Chenagadh swept away over 15 shops and houses, leaving eight people missing, including four Nepali workers and a forest employee. The disaster also damaged roads and walking paths, hampering rescue operations.

In Jakholi block’s Tendwal village, a house collapsed, killing Sarita Devi. In Chamoli’s Dewal block, a two-storey house crumbled under landslide debris, claiming the lives of Tara Singh and his wife Kamla Devi, while another couple was injured and rescued by emergency teams.

The Gram Panchayat Taljaman area also suffered heavy destruction, with over 12 houses damaged and around 20 cattle buried under rubble. More than 65 families have been shifted to schools and panchayat buildings for safety.

Meanwhile, rising river levels have worsened the crisis. In Srinagar, the Alaknanda river is flowing dangerously close to the red mark at 536 meters. At Dhari Devi temple, water has reached the temple bridge and entered nearby shops, raising fears of further flooding.
