In a move aimed at grassroots development, 40 senior IAS officers in Uttarakhand will adopt the areas of their first postings and work towards socio-economic transformation based on observed changes since their initial assignment. Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan issued formal orders on Tuesday to all Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, and Additional Secretaries regarding this initiative.
According to the directive, all IAS officers with a grade pay of 8700 or above must adopt their first place of appointment—be it a development block, tehsil, or district headquarters. If two officers share the same first posting location, one of them will instead adopt their second posting area.
This initiative aligns with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s expectations for officers to contribute meaningfully to their early service areas. The officers are required to assess the changes since their tenure and prepare a report.
They are also expected to utilize CSR funds and other resources to support economic and social progress in these regions. Collaboration with NGOs, civil society groups, and local residents will be encouraged. Moreover, they will need to develop a comprehensive plan for utilizing financial allocations received from district plans, state sectors, and finance commissions.
The list of officers along with their first, second, and third postings has also been released. This program seeks to blend administrative experience with localized action to accelerate inclusive development across Uttarakhand.
