IPS officer Nivedita Kukreti, who was holding the responsibility of Additional Secretary Home, has now been appointed as Special Secretary Home. Home Secretary Shailesh Bagoli has issued formal orders in this regard. Kukreti, a 2008-batch IPS officer, was promoted to the rank of Inspector General earlier this year.
Along with her new role in the Home Department, IG Nivedita Kukreti has also been entrusted with the responsibility of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). The move is being seen as significant for strengthening coordination between the police and the Home Department, especially in view of disaster management and internal security challenges in Uttarakhand.
During her career, Nivedita Kukreti has handled several key assignments in the police department. Officials say her experience at both field and administrative levels played a role in the decision to give her additional responsibilities at the policy level.
Earlier, IG Riddhim Agarwal was serving as Special Secretary Home before being assigned the charge of IG Kumaon last year.
