Centre Approves ₹125 Crore for Landslide Mitigation in Uttarakhand, Including Mansa Devi Hills

The Central Government has approved a ₹125 crore project for landslide treatment at five vulnerable locations across Uttarakhand, including the Mansa Devi hill in Haridwar. In the first phase, ₹4.5 crore has already been released for preparing the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).

The proposals were submitted by the State Disaster Management Authority and the Uttarakhand Landslide Mitigation and Management Centre to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Under the project, work will begin to control frequent landslides on the Mansa Devi hill, which also serves as an alternate route during the Kanwar Yatra.

The remaining four identified sites include the Gologi Hydropower Project route, landslide-prone Charton Lodge area in Nainital, the Masoorie region, Bahuguna Nagar in Karnaprayag where land subsidence has been reported, and Khotila-Ghatdhar area in Pithoragarh district—each marked as highly sensitive.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister on behalf of the state government and residents. He stated that the project represents a decisive step toward long-term mitigation in landslide-prone regions of the state, with five critical sites selected on a priority basis.
