For the first time, the Uttarakhand government will present a Lifetime Achievement Award in literature to honor writers who have made significant contributions to the field. Language Minister Subodh Uniyal stated that a committee meeting was held at the IRDT campus to discuss the names under consideration for the award.
The Uttarakhand Bhasha Sansthan has been consistently recognizing literary figures. In 2022, the Uttarakhand Sahitya Gaurav Samman was introduced, and in 2024, the prize money for the Sahitya Bhushan Award was increased to Rs 5 lakh, which was awarded to Subhash Pant.
Minister Uniyal emphasized that literature is a continuous process of creation. Many writers dedicate their lives to literature despite having no stable source of income, working tirelessly to guide society and contribute to linguistic and literary development at both state and national levels. Several such writers do not even apply for awards.
The minister added that the selection process will be finalized soon, and the chosen writer will be honored with a prize of Rs 5 lakh under the new Lifetime Achievement Award.
