Uttarakhand has recorded a significant decline of 12.5 percent in its maternal mortality rate, marking an important achievement in the state’s healthcare sector. According to the latest Sample Registration System (SRS) report by the Registrar General of India, the maternal mortality ratio has reduced from 104 in 2020-22 to 91. This reflects a 13-point drop, highlighting the success of government-led initiatives to ensure safe childbirth.
The state government has focused on strengthening maternal health by providing free transportation for pregnant women to and from hospitals, along with establishing birth waiting rooms near healthcare facilities. These steps have contributed to improved maternal safety during delivery.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami termed the decline a major milestone, crediting the result to dedicated policies, tireless efforts of healthcare workers, and active community participation. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to further strengthen maternal healthcare services.
Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said maternal health remains the state’s top priority, with every maternal death being promptly reported, analyzed, and followed by corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
