₹91 Lakh Scholarship Scam Uncovered in Uttarakhand

A major scam involving minority student scholarships has been uncovered in Uttarakhand, where 17 out of 92 educational institutions have been found guilty of irregularities. The state government has received the investigation report from district administrations, and preparations are underway to file FIRs against the accused institutions.

The probe was launched after the Ministry of Minority Affairs flagged several institutions on the National Scholarship Portal for suspicious activities. Acting on this, the state government ordered a detailed inquiry into 92 institutions, instructing district magistrates to form SDM-led committees for the investigation.

The submitted report has revealed that in 17 institutes, 1,058 students received scholarships fraudulently, amounting to a scam of approximately ₹91 lakh. Shockingly, some of these institutes had no actual students enrolled at all.

Of the 17 institutions involved, seven are in Haridwar, six in Udham Singh Nagar, and two each in Nainital and Rudraprayag districts. Secretary of the Minority Welfare Department, Dhiraj Garbyal, confirmed that the report has been sent to the central ministry and legal action, including FIRs, will follow.
