67 Roads Blocked Amid Heavy Rain; Bailey Bridge Construction Begins on Yamunotri Highway

The monsoon has regained pace in Uttarakhand, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue an orange alert for heavy rainfall in Rudraprayag, Tehri, Bageshwar, and Dehradun on July 6. Several parts of the state are grappling with road closures due to persistent rain and landslides. A yellow alert has also been issued for other districts.

In Yamunotri, the NH Department has started constructing a 24-meter-long Bailey bridge near Ojri, where a section of the highway was washed away on June 28. Work has picked up speed due to favorable weather conditions. Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department is clearing debris from the lake mouth in Syana Chatti on the Yamuna river.

Currently, 67 roads, including the Rishikesh–Yamunotri National Highway, remain closed across the state. As per the State Emergency Operation Center:

  • Rudraprayag: 4 rural roads
  • Uttarkashi: 1 NH and 11 rural roads
  • Nainital: 2 roads
  • Chamoli: 1 state highway and 21 rural roads
  • Pithoragarh: 6 rural roads
  • Almora: 1 highway and 1 rural road
  • Bageshwar: 11 rural roads
  • Pauri Garhwal: 3 rural roads
  • Dehradun: 2 rural roads
  • Tehri: 3 rural roads

Authorities are on high alert and restoration efforts are ongoing. Travelers are advised to remain cautious and check route updates before planning journeys.
