Medal-winning athletes from Uttarakhand who excelled at the 38th National Games will soon receive their cash rewards, as the state government has released ₹15 crore for the purpose. Sports Minister Rekha Arya confirmed on Tuesday that the incentive amounts had been doubled to motivate athletes representing the state.
This marks a historic move, as no other state has offered such high cash rewards for gold, silver, and bronze medals in National Games history. Around 240 athletes from Uttarakhand, including those in individual and team events, are set to benefit.
Minister Arya said she had raised the budget matter during the last cabinet meeting, and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami promptly approved the funds. A felicitation ceremony will be organized soon to distribute the rewards. Additionally, the government is expediting the process to offer out-of-turn government jobs to medalists, as promised.
