Uttarakhand created history at the 38th National Games, winning 101 medals for the first time. The state’s daughter Jyoti secured the first medal in Wushu, paving the way for victories in boxing, athletics, modern pentathlon, judo, canoeing-kayaking, yogasana, lawn bowls, and wrestling. Now, it’s time for the government to fulfill its promises to the medalists, including cash rewards and job placements.
A Historic Performance for Uttarakhand
Modern Pentathlon saw the state’s best-ever performance, with Mamta Khatri, Monika, Manju Goswami, Saksham Singh, Neeraj Negi, and Lal Singh securing gold medals. Uttarakhand bagged 14 medals, including six golds, in this category.
In boxing, Kapil Pokhriyal, Nivedita Karki, and Narendra Singh won gold. In athletics, Ankita Dhyani clinched gold in the 3000m and 5000m races, and silver in the 10,000m race. The state secured five golds in canoeing and kayaking and two each in taekwondo, judo, and athletics.

Government Promises Rewards and Jobs – As per the government’s announcement, medalists will receive cash prizes:
- ₹12 lakh per gold medal
- ₹8 lakh per silver medal
- ₹6 lakh per bronze medal
Ankita Dhyani will receive ₹32 lakh for her two golds and one silver.
Sports Minister Rekha Arya has confirmed that medal winners will also be given government jobs as per the state’s policy. Now, all eyes are on the government to fulfill its promises and secure the future of these athletes.
