In a striking show of participation, women have dominated the nomination process in Uttarakhand’s upcoming three-tier panchayat elections. While 50% of the seats are officially reserved for women, the nomination count has soared beyond expectations — reaching an impressive 59%.
According to data released by the Election Commission after the closure of nominations, out of a total 63,569 candidates, 37,356 are women. This surge reflects growing confidence and political engagement among women at the grassroots level.
Significant enthusiasm has also been observed among women candidates from reserved categories. The nominations include 2,401 women from Scheduled Tribes (ST), 11,208 from Scheduled Castes (SC), and 4,532 from Other Backward Classes (OBC).
