Voting for the posts of district panchayat presidents, vice presidents, and block chiefs is currently underway across Uttarakhand, with counting scheduled for this evening. By the end of the day, 12 district panchayats will have their new presidents and 89 blocks will have new chiefs.
In six districts, elections for district panchayat president are being held today, while one district’s results—Udham Singh Nagar—will not be declared due to a High Court stay. In the remaining five districts, candidates have already been elected unopposed. Those elected unopposed include Ishita Sajwan (Tehri), Ajay Maurya (Udham Singh Nagar), Anand Singh Adhikari (Champawat), Jitendra Prasad (Pithoragarh), and Ramesh Chauhan (Uttarkashi).
Voting began at 10 am under the single transferable vote system, where members rank candidates by preference. Top-preference candidates will be declared winners. In Chamoli, early voters included Devr Khadora ward member Jai Prakash Singh Panwar and Kotha ward Gairsain member Suresh Kumar. Polling will continue until 3 pm, followed by immediate counting and result announcements for Dehradun, Pauri, Bageshwar, Nainital, Almora, and Rudraprayag districts.
