Uttarakhand Panchayat Election 2025: Reservation Announced

The Uttarakhand government has issued an official order determining reservation in the upcoming 2025 three-tier panchayat elections. Reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) will not exceed 50 percent. A total of 3909 village pradhan seats will be reserved for women, while district and block-level positions have also been allocated under various categories.

As per the government notification, reservations are based on the 2011 Census. Among 12 districts, two district panchayat president posts have been reserved for SCs and two for OBCs. In the block panchayat president category, 3 posts are reserved for STs, 18 for SCs, and 15 for OBCs. For gram pradhan posts, 226 are reserved for STs, 1467 for SCs, and 1250 for OBCs.

Key Dates for Reservation Process:

  • June 11 – Release of details on number of pradhan posts
  • June 13 – Provisional publication of reservation proposals
  • June 14–15 – Submission of objections
  • June 16–17 – Objection resolution by District Magistrates
  • June 18 – Final publication of reservation list
  • June 19 – Submission of final proposals to Directorate, State Government, and Election Commission

Reservation Formula:

The formula used involves calculating the proportion of a caste’s population against the total, and multiplying it by the total number of leadership positions to determine the reserved posts.
