The state government will table the Uttarakhand Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill 2025 in the upcoming monsoon session of the Assembly. As per the provisions, individuals with more than two living children before 25 July 2019 will now be eligible to contest the three-tier panchayat elections. Additionally, based on recommendations of the single-member dedicated commission, Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation has been implemented in panchayats according to their population share in the area.
The Dhami Cabinet has approved presenting the bill in the Assembly following the earlier ordinance. The amendment ensures OBC candidates receive proportional reservation benefits in panchayats, aligning with demographic representation.
