The Uttarakhand Cabinet has approved the release of pending state subsidies under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, bringing relief to over 5,500 beneficiaries across the state. The decision applies to all solar projects that became operational on or before March 31, 2025.
Under the scheme, the central government provides ₹85,800 subsidy for a 3 kW rooftop solar project, while the state earlier offered an additional ₹17,000 per kW, amounting to ₹51,000 for a 3 kW system. However, the state subsidy component was discontinued from April 1 last year, leaving many applicants awaiting financial support despite completing installations.
With the latest cabinet decision, the state has agreed to extend the subsidy benefit to all eligible projects commissioned before the cut-off date. The move is expected to address long-pending cases and reduce dissatisfaction among early adopters of rooftop solar systems.
The Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency has already begun disbursing subsidies after receiving budget allocations. Officials confirmed that payments have been cleared for projects commissioned up to January 2024, while the process for around 3,000 additional beneficiaries is currently underway.

Authorities stated that the remaining eligible beneficiaries will receive payments once further budget approvals are completed. While the decision resolves a backlog, delays in subsidy distribution have raised questions about policy continuity and timely implementation, especially in schemes aimed at promoting renewable energy adoption.
