Uttarakhand Police Tightens Grip on Cyber Fraudsters, Recovers ₹47.02 Crore

Dehradun: Cybercrime has been rising rapidly across the country, but Uttarakhand Police has emerged as a strong force against digital fraud, recovering ₹47.02 crore for victims between 2021 and 2025. This remarkable achievement has earned the state police sixth position nationwide in cyber fund recovery through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).x

The state police have strengthened coordination with inter-state agencies from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Jharkhand, and Telangana to dismantle cybercriminal networks operating across India. The Cyber Police of Uttarakhand continue to protect citizens’ hard-earned money through awareness campaigns, rapid response operations, and successful investigations leading to arrests and charge sheets.

According to IG (Crime and Law & Order) Nilesh Anand Bharne, Uttarakhand Police have achieved one of the best recovery rates in northern India. Their active cyber surveillance and prompt intervention have prevented large-scale financial losses to the public.

Major Achievements of Uttarakhand Cyber Police:

  • Over ₹47.02 crore recovered for cybercrime victims through NCRP between 2021 and 2025.

  • Sixth rank in the national “Money Saved” and “Money Returned” categories.

  • More than 20 major state-level and inter-state cyber fraud cases resolved in 2023–24 by Cyber Police Stations in Dehradun and Udham Singh Nagar.

  • Action taken against scams involving fake trading apps, phishing links, OTP-based fraud, and UPI scams.

  • Over 500 cybercriminals arrested across India, including from Bihar, Jharkhand, and Delhi-NCR.

  • 87% of accused charge-sheeted, significantly higher than the national average of 33.9%.

  • Conviction rate of 64.7%, more than double the national average of 27.2%.

  • International rackets exposed, including Chinese-linked app scams operating from Dubai, Cambodia, and Myanmar.

  • In 2022, a major fake call center was busted in Aurangabad (Maharashtra), with SIM boxes and 12 local centers seized.

  • Under ‘Operation Prahar’, action was taken against 65 cybercriminals nationwide.

  • Under ‘Operation Heli’, over 150 websites, WhatsApp numbers, and bank accounts were blocked, along with hundreds of fraudulent Facebook and Instagram ads.

Uttarakhand Police will also intensify checks on illegal call centers and cyber setups across the state. October has been declared as Cyber Crime Awareness Month, aiming to educate citizens and strengthen digital vigilance.
