Uttarakhand has experienced significant relief from heat this May due to increased pre-monsoon rainfall. In Dehradun, the daytime temperature remained close to the seasonal average for most days, and on Friday, it recorded a notable drop of six degrees below normal, settling at 30°C.
This was the second such instance in May, with a previous sharp dip recorded on May 25 when the temperature fell to 27.8°C — eight degrees below normal. The cooling trend was not limited to Dehradun; several other regions in the state experienced similar weather.
Friday’s rain, which began in the morning and continued until around noon, contributed to the drop. According to meteorologists, the amount of pre-monsoon rainfall has increased this year, resulting in more pleasant weather, especially in the plains.
Experts attribute these unusual patterns to changing weather systems and ongoing climate change. For Saturday, light rain is expected in some parts of Dehradun along with strong winds. The maximum temperature is forecast at 34°C, and the minimum at 22°C.
