Dehradun: Around 9,000 government ration dealers in Uttarakhand are likely to receive a festive boost this Diwali, as the state government considers increasing their profit margins. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Rekha Arya has directed officials to equalize the profit margin given under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and the State Food Scheme (SFY).

According to Food Commissioner Chandresh Kumar, ration dealers have long been demanding that the commission under the State Food Scheme be made equivalent to that provided by the Centre. Currently, the Central Government provides ₹180 per quintal under NFSA, while the State Government gives only ₹50 per quintal under the SFY. A proposal to bring parity between the two has already been sent to the state government for approval.

If approved, dealers under the State Food Scheme will start receiving ₹180 per quintal — the same as those under the Central scheme. Minister Rekha Arya has asked officials to expedite the decision so that ration dealers can receive the revised commission before Diwali.
