Teachers’ Day: Uttarakhand Teachers Honoured with Shailesh Matiyani State Educational Awards

On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, 16 teachers from across Uttarakhand were conferred with the Shailesh Matiyani State Educational Awards at a ceremony held in Raj Bhavan. Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd.) presented the awards in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The 2024 awardees include nine primary teachers, five secondary teachers, one teacher trainer, and one Sanskrit teacher.

Congratulating the awardees, Governor Singh said the honour reflects the dedication and perseverance of the entire teaching community. He emphasized that teachers are not only sources of knowledge but also builders of character, morality, and life values. Education, he said, must go beyond employment and focus on shaping responsible, cultured, and patriotic citizens. He underlined the crucial role of teachers in guiding children after parents and expressed confidence that their contribution will be decisive in making India a global leader by 2047.

Chief Minister Dhami extended greetings on Teachers’ Day and congratulated the award recipients, describing teachers as central to shaping students’ personalities and futures. He also recalled writer Shailesh Matiyani’s deep connection with the struggles and emotions of the hill region, noting his literary works highlighted the lives of villagers and the challenges of Uttarakhand’s mountainous areas.

Among those honoured in primary education were Dr. Yatendra Prasad God (Pauri), Rambha Shah (Chamoli), Murari Lal Rana (Uttarkashi), That Singh (Haridwar), Rajni Mangai (Tehri Garhwal), Mili Bagdi (Rudraprayag), Naresh Chandra (Champawat), Diwan Singh Kathayat (Pithoragarh), and Dr. Vinita Khati (Almora). In secondary education, Pushkar Singh Negi (Pauri Garhwal), Geetanjali Joshi (Uttarkashi), Dr. Sunita Bhatt (Dehradun), Prakash Chandra Upadhyay (Champawat), and Deepak Chandra Bisht (Almora) were recognised.
