Snowfall Disrupts Highways in Uttarakhand, Gangotri Highway Remains Blocked for Third Day

Recent rain and snowfall in Uttarakhand have intensified the cold wave and severely impacted road connectivity in hilly areas. For the third consecutive day, traffic on Gangotri Highway remains disrupted. According to BRO, only small vehicles and chain-fitted vehicles are being allowed. Heavy snow accumulation of up to one foot between Sukki Top, Jhala, and Harsil is making road clearance difficult.

Multiple Highways Blocked

  • Badrinath Highway is closed beyond Hanuman Chatti due to snowfall.
  • Malari Highway is blocked beyond Bhapkund.
  • Chamoli-Ukhimath Highway is shut beyond Kanchula Kharak.
  • The road to Auli is also blocked near Sunil village.

Badrinath Dham has received around three feet of snowfall, while Hemkund Sahib is covered under four feet of snow. Other high-altitude areas like Valley of Flowers, Auli, and Gorson have also witnessed heavy snowfall, making transportation and movement challenging.
