Weather conditions changed sharply across Uttarakhand on Friday as rainfall and snowfall brought winter scenes back to the hills. Snowfall covered several high-altitude areas with a white layer, offering scenic views from Chakrata to Mukhba, the winter abode of Goddess Ganga. The sudden change increased cold conditions and revived activity at tourist destinations.

After a long wait, Chakrata recorded the season’s first snowfall. Areas including Lokhandi, Asmaad, Khadamba, Deoban, Mashak, Koti Kansar and Mundoi witnessed fresh snowfall, covering surrounding hills in snow. As snowfall began, tourists present in Chakrata were seen celebrating, dancing and enjoying the weather. Visitors who had been waiting for snowfall expressed excitement as the hills turned white.

In Uttarkashi district, weather conditions also changed suddenly. Snowfall started in Mukhba village and the disaster-affected Dharali area. Snow was also reported around Gangotri and Yamunotri regions, leading to a significant drop in temperature.

Light snowfall and colder conditions were reported from Mussoorie, Dhanaulti and nearby areas, making the overall weather harsh. Meanwhile, lower regions continued to receive rainfall and drizzle throughout the day.

According to the Meteorological Department, snowfall is likely in areas located above 2,300 metres. While the first snowfall of the season has increased cold conditions in the hills, it has also brought hope and enthusiasm for tourism-related businesses, tourists and farmers. The delayed snowfall, arriving close to the onset of spring, ended the long wait for winter scenes in the region.
