Weather took a dramatic turn across Uttarakhand on Wednesday afternoon, with intense rainfall in the hills and overcast skies in the plains. The high-altitude regions of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, and Valley of Flowers witnessed fresh snowfall, bringing a noticeable chill to the region. Meanwhile, hailstorms in the lower districts caused significant damage to crops, leaving farmers in distress.
In Chamoli district, strong winds accompanied by heavy rainfall led to overflowing streams and waterlogged roads. Several houses were flooded, and a hailstorm damaged crops including Malta, peaches, mustard, and seasonal vegetables.
In Rudraprayag district, intermittent rainfall continued from 2 PM to 4 PM in Kedarnath, while higher ridges saw fresh snowfall. In Srinagar, hailstorm damaged standing wheat and potato crops, worsening conditions for farmers already grappling with a difficult season.
The Tharali region experienced intense rainfall in villages such as Gwaldam, Tharali, Dungri, Kulsari, and Talwadi. In Tharali market, a local stream overflowed, affecting more than ten vehicles and flooding at least six shops with debris and water. The tehsil administration team reached the site and managed to retrieve the trapped vehicles.
Elsewhere, landslides blocked the Dewal-Kothi-Ooni motor road, halting transportation and disrupting movement in the area.
