Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed the Chief Secretary to prepare a concrete action plan for the effective use of the infrastructure developed for the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand. Emphasizing the long-term vision, he said the goal is to ensure that athletes across the state receive continuous access to world-class training and sporting facilities near their homes.
Following the resounding success of the National Games, where Uttarakhand secured over 100 medals and ranked seventh in the country, the state government is now advancing with a new strategy to nurture talent and promote sports culture. The CM noted that the Games were not just a sporting event but a transformative milestone in the state’s sporting history.
Modern facilities at Maharana Pratap Sports College in Dehradun and Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in Haldwani have already been developed. Additionally, the state plans to establish 23 sports academies across eight cities as part of the legacy plan. CM Dhami highlighted that Uttarakhand is now being seen as a “Land of Sports,” a matter of pride for the state.
He added that the 2021 sports policy has significantly boosted athlete morale by offering incentives such as scholarships, government jobs, and cash awards. Olympic medal winners are eligible for rewards of up to ₹2 crore under the policy.
Further strengthening the sports ecosystem, the upcoming Sports University in Haldwani will serve as an institutional hub for sports training, coaching, sports science, physiotherapy, and management, opening new career avenues for youth in the field of sports.
