Uttarakhand Tax Department Plans to Disband Mobile Teams, Strengthen Audit Wing

The Uttarakhand State Tax Department is preparing to disband its mobile teams stationed in border areas, as their contribution to revenue has been minimal. The government has asked the department to submit a proposal in this regard, and is now focusing on strengthening the audit wing to curb GST evasion more effectively.

Currently, 11 mobile teams are deployed across the state, comprising assistant commissioners, deputy commissioners, and tax officers. These teams monitor the inflow of goods without valid bills from other states. However, a recent review found that their functions can be managed through divisional offices, making separate mobile teams unnecessary.

Finance Secretary Dilip Jawalkar stated that, following other states, Uttarakhand will enhance its audit wing, which currently has low GST recovery. Officials deployed in mobile teams can be reassigned to audit and other departmental functions. The department has been asked to submit a formal proposal, after which the decision will be taken at the administrative level.
