Transfer Deadline for Teachers and Employees Tomorrow, But Departments Unprepared

The final date for general transfers of teachers and government employees in Uttarakhand is June 10, as per the state’s Transfer Act. However, many departments have not made adequate preparations, raising concerns about compliance with the rules.

To ensure transparency, the Transfer Act mandates a fixed annual schedule for transfers. This process typically begins in March, during which time departments are expected to identify posts based on set criteria, publish lists of eligible employees, and display vacant positions on their official websites.

Eligible employees are required to submit their preferred choices—up to 10—by April 20 for compulsory transfers. But several departments have failed to follow these guidelines, resulting in delays and legal complications.

Teacher union leaders argue that transfers are a rightful claim of the employees and must be executed on time. Ram Singh Chauhan, Provincial President of the Government Teachers’ Association, stated that educators across the state will stage a protest at the Education Directorate in Dehradun on June 16, demanding timely transfers and promotions.
