Between 2014 and 2024, tiger attacks in Uttarakhand led to 68 human deaths and 83 injuries, while leopard attacks resulted in 214 deaths and 1,006 injuries over the same period. According to the Forest Department’s records, from January to June this year alone, 25 people have died and 136 have been injured in wildlife attacks. Of these, tiger attacks claimed 10 lives and injured 3 people, while leopard attacks caused 6 deaths and 25 injuries.
Forest Department Intensifies Rescue Operations
To reduce human-wildlife conflict, the Forest Department captured eight tigers between January 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. Of these, seven were sent to rescue centers and one was released back into the wild. The department also issued 25 permissions for setting up cages, tranquilizing, and treating wild animals.
Leopard Rescue Numbers Higher
During the same period, 44 leopards were rescued. Out of these, 19 were shifted to rescue centers. Additionally, the department issued 124 permits for cage installation and tranquilizing, 5 for elimination under extreme conditions, and 4 for treatment.
