The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is preparing to allocate a special budget to strengthen forest fire control and management in seven high-risk districts of Uttarakhand. The state has been asked to submit a detailed project report, which is currently being prepared by the Forest Department.
NDMA has identified forest fire-prone districts across 19 states, including Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Champawat, and Almora in Uttarakhand. A review meeting, chaired by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Dhananjay Mohan, was held at the Forest Headquarters to discuss the project.
Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Forest Fire Control and Management), Nishant Verma, stated that the report will be sent to NDMA within 20 days. The report will include demands for equipment such as leaf blowers and firefighting tools to enhance fire control efforts in the vulnerable regions.
