Uttarakhand to Survey Dilapidated Schools, Committees to Oversee Demolition Plans

The Uttarakhand government will soon conduct a statewide survey of dilapidated school buildings to ensure student safety and modernize infrastructure. Committees will be formed at various levels, including members from the School Management Committee (SMC), voluntary organizations, and construction agencies, to assess the condition of these buildings.

Dr. Mukul Kumar Sati, Director of Secondary Education, issued instructions during a virtual meeting with departmental officials. He directed that any school building posing a potential threat to students — including damaged walls, weak structures, or overgrown trees — must be carefully evaluated by the survey teams.

The committees will also assess the availability of basic facilities within the schools. Authorities were clearly instructed to prioritize the demolition of buildings that have deteriorated into dangerous ruins. If there are obstacles such as lack of funds or administrative delays in carrying out demolitions, officials must promptly submit proposals to the Directorate of Education.

The initiative is aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring that students across the state can study in safe and well-maintained environments.
