The Uttarakhand government has decided to take strict action against de-addiction centres operating without registration or in violation of prescribed standards. Joint teams from the Health Department and police will inspect such centres across the state.

Several rehab centres in Uttarakhand continue to function without following valid registration procedures or meeting minimum operational standards. This raises serious concerns over the treatment, mental health care, and rehabilitation of patients admitted to these facilities.

In a recent meeting of the State Mental Health Authority and the State Task Force (STF), officials discussed strategies to identify, inspect, and take action against unregistered de-addiction centres. The meeting emphasized the need for continuous monitoring and enforcement.

Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar directed that all centres be regularly monitored. Centres failing to meet the government’s prescribed minimum standards will face swift and strict action. He reaffirmed that the state will not compromise on the quality of mental health and rehabilitation services.

The meeting was attended by STF SSP Navneet Singh, Joint Director of the State Mental Health Authority Dr. S.D. Burman, and Assistant Director Dr. Pankaj Singh.
