Voter Awareness Campaign Launched with Plantation Drive on Environment Day

On World Environment Day, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttarakhand launched a statewide voter awareness campaign with a plantation drive. The campaign, aimed at encouraging voter participation and environmental consciousness, will continue until the Harela festival, with a target of planting two lakh saplings.

Following the directions of Chief Electoral Officer Dr. BVRC Purushottam, plantation and awareness drives began across all districts on Thursday. District Magistrates, Chief Development Officers, and district-level officials participated, along with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) at polling booths. Participants not only took a pledge to vote but also vowed to protect and care for the saplings they planted. On the first day alone, around 16,000 saplings were planted.

Deputy CEO Kishan Singh Negi, Assistant CEO Mastu Das, and members of the Secretariat Athletics Club planted rudraksha, neem, and other saplings within the Secretariat premises while taking the voting pledge. The state has over 11,700 polling booths, each of which will plant at least 10 saplings as part of the campaign.

The initiative will involve the eldest, youngest, and women voters at each booth for the plantation activity. The CEO has also announced monthly themes for the voter awareness campaign: June’s theme is “Every Drop of Rain and Every Vote Counts,” while July’s theme is “Harela’s Message—Make Every Vote Count.”
