The Meteorological Department has issued red and yellow alerts for heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand over the next four days, along with flood warnings in multiple districts. The State Emergency Operations Center has directed all District Magistrates to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures.
On September 1, red alerts were issued for Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, and Nainital due to the forecast of very heavy rain, while other districts were placed under yellow alert. On September 2, Dehradun, Chamoli, and Bageshwar were again issued red alerts, with the rest under yellow. On September 3, a yellow alert for heavy rainfall has been declared for several districts.
So far, Uttarakhand has received 1143.8 mm of rainfall this monsoon season. Between Friday morning and Saturday morning, Khateema recorded 63 mm of rain, Ukhimath 57.8 mm, Kuthnaur 49 mm, Barakot 45 mm, and Janki Chatti 35 mm. Uttarkashi recorded 31 mm, Gangangarh 25.6 mm, Karnaprayag 23.8 mm, and Joshimath 22.4 mm.
According to the Central Flood Control Room of the Irrigation Department, by 3 p.m. on Saturday, the water level of the Ganga in Mayakund, Rishikesh, and the Gori River in Madkot was rising, while levels of some rivers were stable or decreasing.
