Rain continues across Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, since late night. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Dehradun, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. A yellow alert has been issued for Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Nainital, while moderate to heavy rain is expected in other districts until 20 August. In Srinagar, the Alaknanda river’s water level has risen, raising concerns of flooding.
The IMD has also issued a flood alert for Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri, and Uttarkashi in the next 24 hours. District Magistrates have been directed to stay on high alert.
Meanwhile, the Gangotri Highway remains blocked at several points between Bhatwari and Gangnani due to landslides at Nalupani, Ratudi Sera, and Netala. In Barkot, heavy rain has caused local streams to overflow, creating panic among residents. Landslides and debris flows have blocked highways and rural roads, while dumping site waste is reaching the Yamuna riverbank, adding to environmental concerns.
