Uttarakhand Weather Alert: IMD warns of heavy rain, thunderstorms in next 24 hours

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several districts of Uttarakhand, warning of very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and intense showers within the next 24 hours. The affected districts include Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Nainital, Almora, and Udham Singh Nagar.

The forecast suggests heavy downpours with thunder and lightning, particularly in hilly areas, where isolated intense rainfall and showers are likely. The IMD has urged residents to remain cautious and avoid vulnerable areas prone to landslides, flash floods, and waterlogging.

On Thursday, heavy rain was recorded in several parts of the state, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas. However, conditions improved by late morning as the skies cleared and sunshine returned, bringing humid weather. Cloud cover developed again by evening, followed by nighttime rainfall.

The rain also led to a drop in temperatures. Dehradun recorded a maximum of 34.4°C and a minimum of 21.2°C, while Pantnagar registered 34.6°C and 26.2°C. In hilly regions, Mukteshwar recorded 21.5°C (max) and 14.7°C (min), while New Tehri stood at 26.1°C (max) and 16.2°C (min).
