In view of the ongoing monsoon and the risk of landslides, the Uttarkashi district administration has imposed a night traffic ban on all vehicles across police barriers in the region. From 9 PM to 5 AM, vehicular movement will be strictly prohibited, with exceptions only for ambulances, emergency vehicles, and vehicles belonging to military and paramilitary forces.
This measure comes as landslides have frequently affected roads, particularly on the Gangotri and Yamunotri highways and various connecting routes, during the rainy season. As the Chardham Yatra is currently underway, the Disaster Management Department has instructed all district police units to halt general traffic during night hours to prevent any mishaps.
There are six major police barriers across the district. Vehicles arriving after 9 PM will be stopped and directed to nearby safe locations. This precaution is based on incidents in previous years where sudden landslides at night led to serious accidents.
Local vehicles will also not be allowed to operate during this restricted time, ensuring maximum safety for residents and pilgrims alike.
